Northwestern Buffett Institute for Global Affairs

Undergraduate Student Programming

In addition to programs that support student research and learning, we offer a number of programs focused on student global leadership development and international community building.

If you would like to get involved, please sign up for the mailing list, view our upcoming events or write the Undergraduate Programs team.

Atlas Peer Mentorship Program

The Atlas Peer Mentorship Program is dedicated to developing the next generation of global leaders by connecting first-year international students who receive need-based aid or otherwise identify as a lower-income student to second, third and fourth year student mentors.

In partnership with offices including the Office of International Student and Scholar Services, the Atlas program aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment for student participants, enriching their academic and social experiences at the university.

Central to Atlas is its student lounge at the Buffett Institute, which hosts Chai and Chat sessions on most Tuesday evenings when school is in session. These sessions provide a relaxed environment for students to share experiences, discuss challenges and build community. To see upcoming sessions, please visit PlanItPurple.

Student Leaders (2024-2025)

Interested in joining next year? Please check back in Winter 2025. You may also write to Grace Lewis, Undergraduate Program Coordinator.

Atlas International Undergraduate Student Lounge

The lounge provides a home base for students in the Atlas program, but is open to all international undergraduate students. Students may use it as a study or social gathering space and are welcome to use the television (equipped with a Roku and several streaming subscriptions) to host a movie or sports watch party.

Location: Ground Floor, 720 University Place

Hours: Monday – Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. when school is in session

International Diplomacy Series

The Buffett Institute has launched a yearlong initiative focused on international diplomacy in turbulent times, with many engagement opportunities for undergraduate students including a conflict resolution workshop and a peace conference simulation.

Buffett Reading Room

This cozy and collaborative space is open to all students who need a quiet place to write, study or recharge. It’s also a welcoming social hub where students can connect with their peers and share ideas in a low-pressure environment.

Location: Second Floor, 720 University Place

Hours: Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  when school is in session and events are not being held in the space

Please note that 720 University Place is not an ADA-accessible space. Increasing physical access to buildings and facilities is a goal of the University, but not all buildings and venues have been updated.
