Teaching Asian Languages as a Second Language

Languages in Asia share unique linguistic features and cultural ties due to the historical relationships and geographic proximity. This reading group is organized for faculty teaching Asian languages to discuss shared pedagogical challenges, such as how to motivate and engage students with diverse backgrounds, how to incorporate traditional and contemporary Asian cultures in our language classrooms, and how to utilize technology in language teaching. The discussion will enable faculty to gain a deeper understanding of these challenges and develop effective teaching strategies across Asian languages, which will eventually benefit students who take Asian language classes at Northwestern.

Global Capitalism & Law Research Group

The Global Capitalism & Law Research Group studies how laws and legal institutions differentially contribute to creating politically sustainable market economies. Moving beyond debates about the varieties of capitalism, this group seeks to better understand the interaction between law and legal institutions on the one hand, and economic and social forces on the other. The group's goal is to replace one-size-fits-all recommendations with a deeper understanding of how legal infrastructures can facilitate investment and build trust and predictability while protecting the rights and addressing the needs of all citizens.
