Recap Video | Negotiating Peace: Student Diplomacy Simulation

The final installment of the Roberta Buffett Institute's yearlong event series on international diplomacy was an interactive peace conference simulation designed by Danielle Gilbert, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University. This four-hour venture charged a group of Northwestern undergraduates with taking on the roles of negotiators in a fictionalized peace process, complete with the pressures and constraints faced by real-world diplomats. The exercise challenged students to bridge divides and come to an agreement, offering them hands-on experience with the nuances of international negotiation, which they had learned about through the two-day Buffett Symposium on Negotiating Peace in a Multipolar World the month prior.
