Become a Buffett Institute Ambassador
This selective ambassador program is for student alumni of the Buffett Institute’s undergraduate programs.
As an ambassador, you’ll engage with prospective applicants to Buffett’s undergraduate programs, share insights from your own experiences in them, and support international engagement on campus.
Additionally, you’ll gain access to professional development opportunities and actively continue to take part in our community dedicated to advancing research and teaching about the world beyond the borders of the United States. Opportunities for professional development will vary depending on student interest and availability, but may include invitations to workshops, networking opportunities, and small-group discussions with experts in the global affairs community.
Annual application deadline: September 25
This volunteer role includes the following responsibilities.
- Attend an ambassador training session. The fall session is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 8. Students who will be off campus in the fall will have opportunities to complete training in subsequent quarters.
- Be featured in our online ambassador directory, allowing prospective students to contact you directly for peer advising.
- Respond to peer advising requests in a timely manner, engaging with prospective students by email, chat, or in person at the Buffett Institute.
- Attend and support at least one student-focused Buffett event per quarter, such as undergraduate open houses, program information sessions, or student events with visiting scholars and practitioners.
In addition to these core responsibilities, ambassadors may also choose to contribute in the following optional ways.
- Join a lunch with the director of the Buffett Institute to share feedback and insights on the Institute's undergraduate programs.
- Provide content for social media or blog posts highlighting your experiences or insights as a program alumnus.
- Propose your own ideas for outreach or initiatives that help strengthen Buffett’s undergraduate community.
Students must have successfully completed a Buffett Institute undergraduate program by the time of application.
Programs include:
- Atlas Peer Mentorship Program (as a mentor or mentee)
- Student-led speaker events (including the fall 2025 Buffett Symposium on youth and peacebuilding)
Students must be willing to commit to the program for the entire 2025–2026 academic year. One quarter may be remote, if the student will be off campus. They must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at Northwestern while serving as an ambassador.
Students must complete the short application by Thursday, September 25.
