Apply to join the Northwestern University delegation to COP27

Each year, Northwestern University receives a limited number of observer badges for the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP). This year’s conference, COP27, will be held in Sharm el Sheik in the Arab Republic of Egypt. We will receive four badges for each week of COP27 (November 6-13 and November 14-18). In addition to shared badge access, members of the delegation will receive support from Northwestern Buffett for travel and accommodations.   

Members of the Northwestern community have previously participated in COP26 to engage with the international climate negotiation process, share their research and innovative practices, and develop new connections or partnerships. 

Application Details & Deadlines 

 Applicants must complete the Northwestern Buffett application. The application includes three short essays (250 words or less) related to the review criteria: 

Applications will be reviewed by Northwestern Buffett Institute and Northwestern Institute for Sustainability and Energy (ISEN) leadership. Priority will be given to first-time applicants, and the committee will work to develop a delegation that is reflective of our diverse university community.

Monday, August 8, 2022: Applications open

Wednesday, September 7, 2022: Applications close

Monday, September 19, 2022: Committee announces selected delegates

Monday, September 26, 2022: Selected delegates confirm participation 

If selected delegates are unable to confirm participation, they may re-allocate their badge to a student or faculty partner, pending Northwestern Buffett approval. 

Eligibility 

Northwestern faculty members and graduate students are eligible to apply for this award. Faculty must be full-time, benefits-eligible and in either tenure-line or clinical/instructional roles.
