2017 nominee: Estefania Palomino

Estefania PalominoEstefania Palomino is a global health lawyer, Latin American feminist, and entrepreneur. She is the program manager of the women's rights, Latin American Division at the Wyss Foundation. Estefania is one of the youngest leaders to run a large portfolio of multi-country investments in women’s rights in an entire region of the world. Under her leadership, the division has promoted women’s access to healthcare services in more than 16 different Latin American countries. 

Born and raised in Norte de Santander, a neglected region of Colombia, Estefania understands the importance of bringing local leaders to develop community-based strategies for women’s rights. She believes that Latin American women and girls have the knowledge, skills, and strength to overcome the discrimination that they endure in highly patriarchal societies.

Estefania has worked as a staff attorney at one of the largest law firms in Colombia, Brigard & Urrutia, served as a visiting professional at the inter-American Court of Human Rights, and co-founded her own public interest law practice, IVO Legal. During 2014, she worked as a Global Health Corps (GHC) fellow at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, coordinating advocacy strategies around sexual and reproductive rights in more than 10 different countries in Africa and Latin America.

Last year, Estefania was selected as a Spotlight Health Aspen Ideas scholar and panelist, and as one of the 10 young leaders creating a better world by Johnson & Johnson and the Huffington Post.
