Student Photo Contest: "Streets of Turkey"

The Keyman Modern Turkish Studies Program invites submissions to the “Streets of Turkey” photography competition. The Program seeks photos of everyday life on the streets of Turkey that portray human interactions with each other and with their environment in a single illustrative and well-composed image. More specific themes may include labor, urban redevelopment, social inequality, youth, pastimes, gender, or architecture.

The applicant must be a university student in the United States.

Submission Guidelines

Please mail your photo (high resolution JPEG) to the Keyman Turkish Studies Program ( with

  • Your name
  • Name of college or university and expected graduation year
  • Description of the photo
  • Statement of agreement to allow the submitted photo to be used in print and online publications of the Keyman Program and the Buffett Institute

Each student can submit up to two of their own photos. By entering, the applicant indicates his/her unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of the Keyman Program’s decisions, which are final and binding. The deadline for submissions is March 25, 2016.

Judging and Prizes

The submissions will be judged on the basis of relevancy, technical adequacy and originality of the submission by a jury selected by the Keyman Program, and by voting on Facebook. The Keyman Program will reward the three most successful submissions with $500, $400, and $300. Additionally, the winner of the Facebook voting will be rewarded $400.
