October 27, 2017

 Overview

This competition was designed to convey the importance of standards and subtleties in standards design and development.  Over the course of six hours, student teams, with 28 participants ranging from undergraduate to graduates and from multiple disciplines, simulated the standardization development process to

  • Present requirements for a technical standard using no or minimal text
  • and, working in assigned roles with varying goals, negotiate the content of the standard

Teams represented San Jose State University, Texas A &M, University of Colorado at Boulder and City College of New York and each had a faculty mentor. 5 judges from ANSI/IAPMO, ICES/Purdue University, IEEE/Magma Design Automation and Deere determined the winning team came from San Jose State.
