Bridget Calendo-Spaeth joins the Buffett Institute as senior director of operations and strategic planning

The Buffett Institute welcomes Bridget Calendo-Spaeth as its next senior director of operations and strategic planning. Starting in late April, she will work alongside outgoing senior director Meg McDonald for a month before Meg relocates to Sydney, Australia.

Bridget comes to the Buffett Institute from Weinberg College, where she has been the assistant chair of the Department of Neurobiology since 2015. Previously, she helped build and grow the Institute of Sustainability and Energy (ISEN). There, she rolled out global programs for undergraduate students in Germany and China.

She also brings a wealth of professional experience from Rotary International, Yale University, and Duke University. 

Between her career and education, Bridget has spent more than 20 years at Northwestern. Her time at the University began in 1992 with her master's program in sociology and history. She also earned an Executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, which included studying at Kellogg’s Schulich campus in Toronto. 

She has been a member of many committees, workgroups, and boards, including Leadership Evanston, the Midwest Energy and Sustainability Leadership Alliance (MESLA), Chicago Sister City Committee to China, the Solar Fuels Institute (SOFI), and One Book One Northwestern, of which she was the chair in 2011. She is a former president of the Association of Northwestern University Women (ANUW) and a member of The Peer Learning Group in the Office of Change Management.

Bridget is a sports enthusiast and currently lives in Evanston with her husband and son.
