Big Problem Perspectives Working Group
Healthcare Policy Thrust
Healthcare clearly fits the characteristics of Big Problems and calls for our working group’s multi-disciplinary perspectives and evolving approaches. Healthcare challenges have multiple contributing causes, ranging from poverty to diet and culture to educational gaps. Even climate change has a significant impact, along with emerging diagnostic and treatment technologies, public-private sector interplay, and varying pay models, regulations and standards, and insurance coverage policy.
Further complicating healthcare problems is the fragmentation of the industry and the many stakeholders with diverse agendas. There are useful lessons to be learned by looking at varied approaches and experiences across the world. The working group began to look at healthcare years ago in the form of an initiative called Forum for Innovation and Change in Health (FICH) but effort is now resurging and building.
